Help support our neighbor, Liz Malia, in the upcoming election

We have received the following from Liz:

Dear friend,
I’m Liz Malia, State Representative, for the 11th Suffolk which includes parts of Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Roslindale and Dorchester.
I hope this finds you and your loved ones safe and well.
I am writing to ask for your vote in this year’s Primary Election on September 1, 2020.
Although I am running unopposed, I believe it is important that each of us in elected office reach out directly to our constituents and ask for your support.
The times we find ourselves in are truly overwhelming, but I believe it is critical to continue to fight against racism and forfunding adequate human services, education, health care and criminal justice reform.
Please feel free to contact me on any issue I might be helpful with, including help accessing Early Voting Dates and locations.
Thank you for your support and please stay safe.
Liz

Values Statement of the Ward 19 Democratic Committee

In light of the legacy of racism in our country and recent calls to action, we are taking time to reflect on the ways that we, as a ward committee, can do more to both understand and dismantle the persistent systems of oppression in our country.  While we seek to educate ourselves on the ways that structural racism has and continues to harm people and our communities, we are also committed to building a more inclusive and representative ward committee. We commit to turning our reflection into action and doing better to keep anti-racist efforts front and center in the work we do now and in the future. To do this work, we are committed to a framework of four types of activities to help us move forward:

  1. Inward Reflection: Undertake activities designed for members of the Ward Committee along with other interested parties to educate, discuss, reflect and assess.
  2. Outreach for inclusive and diverse representation: Upon this inward reflection, develop methods to address racial justice and awareness in our community and increase and diversify participation in the Ward Committee.
  3. Accountability: In addition to community outreach, it is equally important that we hold ourselves and our elected officials accountable for upholding anti-racist ideals.  We plan to use a racial justice and equity scorecard to assess legislation and officials we support.
  4. Actions: In order for progress to be made, we will also be proactive, in identifying places where we can take effective action.

Boston Mobilizes Maine – Day of Action July 9 – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Image preview

On behalf of MassDems, thank you all for coming together for a day of action to help the Maine Dems.

We are so thrilled to be helping our neighbors flip the Senate and defeat Susan Collins.

We’re getting closer to Maine’s Senate primary, and for the first time in three decades, Maine Democrats have the largest bloc of registered voters in the state.

Susan Collins is key to the Republicans holding the Senate and Trump is targeting CD-2’s electoral vote, so their Party is investing heavily in Maine. A big turnout in their July 14th primary would show Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell, and President Trump how fired up Democrats are to flip the Senate and take back the White House–and that they have a lot to lose this November.

Each shift includes training and dial time. Volunteers will go over the plan to win Maine in 2020, the current voter contact script, and how to use Maine’s virtual phonebanking tools. These trainings will be held over a Zoom video conference.

MassDems Executive DirectorSWING STATE UPDATEFrom electing Joe Biden and taking back the White House, to defeating Susan Collins in Maine, and protecting the Democrats in the U.S. House, here’s your weekly round up of how Democrats are turning out voters and taking on Republicans across the country.Flip the Senate

NEW HAMPHSIRE: Shaheen will face anti-abortion foe in 2020“U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, rose to political power from a career of championing abortion rights as a strategist and field organizer 30 years ago.

To win her third term in 2020, Shaheen will have to get by the most vocal anti-abortion nominee she has faced in all her past campaigns for federal office.”

MAINE: Abortion Rises as a Pivotal Issue for At-Risk Senate Republicans
“When Ms. Collins, a Maine Republican, cast a decisive vote to confirm Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court in 2018, she did so on the premise that he would uphold precedent to preserve abortion rights. But on Monday, Justice Kavanaugh dissented from a decision that did that, arguing that the court should have ruled differently than it did in a nearly identical case four years ago.”

MAINE: Democrats take lead in voter registrations in Maine
“For the first time in more than three decades, Democrats have the largest bloc of registered voters in Maine, with more than 40,000 new party members enrolled since the last presidential election cycle in 2016.

Over the same four-year period, Republicans have added fewer than 6,000 new members, according to voter registration data from the Secretary of State’s Office.”

Take Back the White House

BIDEN CAMPAIGN: PPP poll finds Biden leading in Georgia
“Joe Biden has opened up a 4-point lead over President Trump in Georgia, according to a new poll released on Monday, suggesting that the former vice president is making gains in a state long considered a safe bet for Republicans.”THE LOCAL LEVELLeading up to November, we’ll be sharing all the ways down-ballot Democrats are making headlines in Massachusetts. First, we’d like to introduce you to a couple of Democrats fighting for us in purple districts.Meet Becca.

Elected in an iconic 2018 victory, Senator Becca Rausch is an effective agent of positive change. Since her election, she’s been working for reproductive health and justice, public health improvements, combating climate change, voting rights, protecting against discrimination, and good government. Learn more about Becca here. Meet Tram.

Tram Nguyen came to MA at 5 years old as political refugees from Vietnam. Support from the community led her to dedicate her life to advocating for those who can’t advocate for themselves, first as a legal aid attorney, and then, after flipping the 18th Essex district in 2018, as State Rep. Learn more about Tram.UPCOMING EVENTSDefeat Susan Collins and turn Maine bright blue by helping GOTV before Maine’s primary.
