Join the Ward 19 Democratic Committee for a discussion on Voter Rights and Transparency

Greetings from Boston’s Ward19 democratic committee!

We are excited to invite you to our monthly meeting on March 4th at 7:00 PM for a panel discussion on voter rights and transparency. The meeting will be held at Farnsworth House on 90 South Street in JP.
Our panelists are two JP residents and voter rights’ activists:
  • Pam Wilmot, Executive Director of Common Cause Massachusetts
  • Martha Karchere, Speaker for Voter Choice Massachusetts
We will hear from Pat and Martha about important legislation making its way through the Massachusetts legislature, including a bill proposed by JP Rep. Liz Malia and co-sponsored by JP Rep. Nika Elugardo on election day voter registration.
The strength of our democracy is measured by whether voters have full access to the ballot box and by the processes that govern our elected officials. At a time when the integrity of elections is at risk across the nation by voter suppression, gerrymandering, and foreign interference, we want to make sure Massachusetts is leading the way in pro-voter policies and practices. We took a significant step forward last session with the passage of automatic voter registration, but we are still behind the curve as seen in this report by the Center for American Progress, https://ampr.gs/2EMxeAq.

Ward Committee Plans for Boston 2019 City Council Election

The Boston Ward 19 Democratic Committee is now planning its activities for the upcoming City Council Election. We will make time available at our May, June, and July meetings for candidates who have obtained nomination papers and who which to introduce themselves. Our Issues Committee is planning a full forum for candidates.

The full 2019 Boston election calendar is found at this link. The key dates are the Preliminary Municipal Election on Tuesday, September 24, and the Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 5.

Ward 19 Democratic Committee Endorses Candidates for state and national offices

After the candidates’ forum on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 the committee met and voted the following additional endorsements. The primary election is on Tuesday, September 4.

Ward 19 Neighbor Running for JP Neighborhood Council

Dear Friends and Neighbors-

I am asking for your vote as a District  C delegate on our JP Neighborhood Council on Saturday April 28th.  Election info below.

I seek re-election election to the Jamaica Plain Neigbhorhood Council to help bring about a more balanced and inclusive approach on issues affecting the future of this community.

An approach that recongnizes the rich diversity and social make-up of the Jamaica Plain community and works to provide and encourage an open forum for the expession of issues and views from all sections of our neighborhood.

 I am a life long activist and resident of JP.   I was a member of the JPNC from 1985 through 1997, during this time period, I served as the Chair of the Zoning Committee.  I have also served as chair of the Asticou-Martinwood-South Street Neigbhorhood Association for 25 years.  I was born and raised in Jamica Plain, married with 2 children, 4 grandchildren, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Boston and work as a procurement contracts negotiator.

Vote this Saturday, April 28 between 10am and 5pm.  Voting tables are at Harvest Co-op Forest Hills and JP Licks and Stop and Shop.

Any resident 16 or older is eligible to vote.  You can vote for up to five candidates in your district and five At-Large candidates .
