Resources for Understanding Precinct Changes in Ward 19

In Ward 19, precincts 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 were changed due to reprecincting.  Reprecincting was needed partly because of the way the legislature set up the new districts for the state house and senate.  The piece of precinct 3 on the east side of Centre St. was moved into precinct 4.  The northern part of precinct 9, along the Arborway and neighboring streets was moved into precinct 8.   The western half of precinct 7 was moved into precinct 9.  You can see details for Ward 19 on pages 61-64 of this document.  No precinct voting locations were moved, but if your precinct changed from 3 to 4 or from 7 to 9, your location will have changed.  (8 and 9 vote in the same place, so those moved from 9 to 8 still vote in the same place.)

Here are some voting resources from the Secretary of State.

Here’s where to look up where to vote, which will also give you your precinct and which districts you are going to be in due to redistricting. You can also see a sample ballot when you enter your address on that page.

Committee endorses Fair Share Amendment

At its meeting on Monday, April 4, the Boston Ward 19 Democratic Committee voted to endorse the Fair Share Amendment, which will be on the 2022 ballot.

The Fair Share Amendment is a proposal to amend the Massachusetts Constitution, creating an additional tax of four percentage points on the portion of a person’s annual income above $1 million. The new revenue, approximately $2 billion a year, would be spent on “quality public education and affordable public colleges and universities, and for the repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and public transportation.” To ensure that the amendment continues to apply only to the highest income taxpayers, who have the ability to pay more, the $1 million threshold would be adjusted each year to reflect cost-of-living increases.

Ward 19 elects delegates to June state convention

At its caucus on March 5, 2022, Democrats in Ward 19 elected the following people to represent it at the state convention on June 3-4, 2022. Alternates attend the full convention and become full voting delegates if one or more delegates are unable to attend. Congratulations to all!

Many thanks to the over 100 voters, guests, and candidates for office who attended the caucus, and for the patience of voters and delegate candidates who waited through the technical issues that extended the voting process. We all look forward to meeting in person next year!
